Dux took his guests, Richard and Janet Hickson, who were also accompanied by their private guide – Gavin Ford – out on a boat cruise two afternoon’s ago. The afternoon boat cruise is a lovely change in tempo for our guests. It affords them the opportunity to relax as the boat meanders along the Selinda Spillway, calm and smooth.
Sightings on boat cruises are usually focused around birds and the water based creatures such as frogs, toads, crocodiles, hippos and the occasional bull elephant seen wading in the water.
Its not usually a platform from which one gets to observe predators, least of all Wild Dogs and Spotted Hyenas!
This is exactly what Dux’ group were able to find! Our Selinda Pack of Wild Dogs, who had just made a kill of an Impala, and a few Spotted Hyenas who are often seen skulking around near kills.
It just doesn’t get better than this!
Here is a photo that Dux snapped of two of the Dogs after they had eaten their fill and were relaxing along the banks of the Spillway for a snooze as the sun started to get low in the sky, ushering in the crisp clear African night skies!
Our thoughts are now starting to shift focus on where the Selinda Pack of Wild Dogs will den this year, we are really hoping that it will be at their old den site! Watch this space for more on those developments!
