Young Hannah and the Tong Family have just departed. Hannah likes making lists of everything she sees and was very proud to go through her diaries with us before she departed yesterday. They began their three day trip here with a sighting of our 14 Lion just as they turned out from the airstrip. A great start and it was all “go go go!” from there.
Hannah’s mammal list included:
Lion (first 5 minutes), Cheetah, Wild Dog, Leopard, Genet, Jackal, Springhare, Tree Squirrel, Many mongoose, Roan, Steenbok, Waterbuck, Reedbuck, Wildebeast, Kudu, Impala, Warthog, Hippo, Letschwe, Tsessebe, Buffalo, Many bats, Lesser bushbaby, Vervet monkey, Chacma Baboon, Pouch Mouse, Porcupine tracks, Aardvark tracks, Crocodile (even though it is not a mammal), Giraffe.
Most of all though, and the top of Hannah’s list was the hundreds of Elephants that we have seen.
p.s As we drove the family to the airstrip we came across the same 14 Lions of the Selinda Lion pride that they saw on arrival, almost exactly as they were the previous time. Hannah was convinced that they were just coming to say goodbye. Needless to say Hannah wants to return next year.
